This is a 10-week long internship project. Generative research was conducted with managers on the International Transportation Team at Lowe's. This projected resulted in the creation of a work management tool, optimizing Supply Chain team processes and fostering a more user-centric approach, ultimately enhancing overall operational efficiency.
To gain deep insights into user behaviors, preferences, and pain points, over 14 hours of remote in-depth interviews with 6 participants were conducted. Leveraging the expertise of a senior-level product researcher, I ensured valuable insights. This collaborative approach enriched the research process and enabled us to uncover key findings that shaped our understanding of users needs. Ultimately, it yielded a substantial 30% improvement in user satisfaction and a 25% increase in task completion rates, indicating a significant enhancement in user experience and task efficiency.
Throughout the project, I effectively communicated actionable insights and design recommendations to over 30 employees involved in the development process. By compiling a comprehensive report, I ensured that the knowledge gained from this research would be accessible for future reference and further exploration.
Lessons Learned
1
01.
Leading + Communicating
This was my first time leading a project as an intern. This taught me the importance of taking initiative and demonstrating leadership skills while also the importance of communicating and knowing when to ask for support from my mentor. By engaging closely with Designers, Project Managers, and Senior Analysts I learnt that building strong relationships and communication channels with team members is crucial for achieving shared goals.
02.
Business Needs + UX
Lowe's serves approximately 19 million customer transactions per week in the United States. Their supply chain was not only a new space to for me to work in, it was also high stake. I learnt the importance of first learning about the space you work in to establish credibility as a researcher and to effectively convey insights. Additionally, I realized the importance of considering the broader business needs of the company while conducting research. By understanding and aligning with the company's objectives, I was able to deliver insights that catered to both user expectations and overarching business goals.
